Instagram Feed connection types: Benefits and Differences

In our Instagram Feed widget, you can display posts by adding a username, hashtag, or by linking your widget to Instagram through authorization.

This article explains the differences between these connection types and their benefits.

If your Instagram Feed widget was created before August 5, 2024, the connection settings in the Source Type tab may look slightly different.

Instagram Source Types

Account and Hashtag (Public)

With these public connection types, no Instagram login is required. Simply add a username or hashtag, click Search, and you're done:

The Account and Hashtag types only work with public Instagram accounts (open to everyone, no age or country restrictions).

Both types display the number of posts, followers, and following in the widget header, along with likes and comments on posts:

Business (API)

If you're connecting a profile, you can use our Business connection type. With this option, you connect the source by authorizing through your Instagram account:

Key features of this connection type:

Requires Instagram authorization (API connection).

Allows access to private or restricted profiles not available via Public connection.
