How to Identify and Switch Your Instagram Account Type

In our Instagram Feed widget, you can connect your Instagram account in two ways: using a public connection or via API. For details, see Instagram Feed Connection Types.

To connect via API, your Instagram account needs to be a professional account (Business or Creator). This guide shows how to check your account type and switch to a professional account if needed.

Check Your Account Type

Log in to your Instagram account and click MoreSettings:

Scroll to the For professionals section and check which option appears.

If you see Professional account with Business tools and controls or Creator tools and controls, you already have the correct account type:

Great! You can now add your account as a source.

If you see Personal account with Account type and tools:

You have a personal account. To use the API connection, switch to a professional account.

Click Account type and toolsSwitch to Professional Account:

Choose either Creator or Business account type and follow the instructions on the screen:

Now you have a professional account! You're ready to add the source to your Instagram Feed widget.

Open your Instagram profile and check what you see in the interface:

Click on Edit profile:

Select Switch to Professional account:

Choose your account category and click Switch to professional account:

Select either Creator or Business account type:

You can finish setting up your account now or later. Click the × in the top-right corner to continue later:

Now you have a professional account! You're ready to add the source to your Instagram Feed widget.
