How to Identify and Switch Your Instagram Account Type

In our Instagram Feed widget, you can connect to Instagram via API. For details on the differences between public and API connections, check out this article.

To connect via API, ensure your Instagram account is a professional type (Business or Creator), as our widget supports only this. This guide will show you how to check and switch your account type on desktop and mobile devices.

Desktop Instructions

How to Identify Your Account Type

Log in to your Instagram account, click More (1) → Settings (2):

Scroll to the For professionals section and check your account type:

• Professional account with Business tools and controls:
  
  You have a professional account! Next, link your Instagram account to a Facebook page and then add the source to Instagram Feed widget.
• Professional account with Creator tools and controls:
  
  You have a professional account! Next, link your Instagram account to a Facebook page and then add the source to Instagram Feed widget.
• Personal account:
  
  You have a personal account. To use the API connection, first switch to a professional account.

How to Switch to a Professional Account

Click Account type and tools → Switch to Professional Account:

Choose either Creator or Business account type and follow the instructions on the screen:

Now you have a professional account! Next, link your Instagram account to a Facebook page and then add the source to Instagram Feed widget.

• Professional dashboard:

• Edit and Share buttons only:
  
  You have a personal account. To use the API connection, first switch to a professional account.

How to Switch to a Professional Account

Click on Edit profile:

Select Switch to Professional account:

Choose your account category and click Switch to professional account:

Select either Creator or Business account type:

You can continue setting up your account. Click the cross icon in the top right corner to do it later, or complete the account type switch right away:
