Position

The Position settings allow you to choose where the widget appears. Select Embed (static) for a fixed position or Floating to make it follow users as they scroll:

Chat Display Settings

The Chat Display Settings section includes four settings: Pages, Devices, Visitors, and Date & Time. Here's how you can use each to customize your widget:

1

The Pages setting lets you specify where the widget will be displayed:

  1. All Pages — display the widget on every page
  2. Excluded Pages — exclude specific pages from displaying the widget
  3. Specific Pages — display the widget on certain pages only
For more details, see our article on Displaying Facebook Chat on specific pages.
2

The Devices setting lets you choose which devices will display the widget:

3

The Visitors setting allows you to target different types of visitors:

  1. All visitors — show the widget to everyone
  2. New visitors — show the widget only to first-time visitors
  3. Returning visitors — show the widget to visitors who have been to your site before
4

The Date & Time setting allows you to schedule when the widget will be displayed:

For more details, check out Setting a schedule for your Facebook Chat widget.

Open Chat Triggers

The Open Chat Triggers settings allow you to choose which visitor actions will automatically open the chat window:

  1. On Page Load — open the chat as soon as the page loads
  2. Time on Page — open the chat after a visitor spends a certain amount of time on the page
  3. Time on Site — open the chat after a visitor spends a set time on your website
  4. Scroll Position — open the chat after a visitor scrolls down a percentage of the page
  5. Exit Intent — open the chat when a visitor tries to leave the site or close the browser

You can also set a time in the Remember Visitor section—once a visitor closes the chat, it won’t open again during this period.

You can use multiple triggers simultaneously, and the first one triggered will open the chat. For example, if Time on Site is set to 5 minutes and Scroll Position to 80%, the chat will open based on whichever happens first.

Notifications

The Notifications settings let you enable or disable the red badge that draws attention to the chat. You can also display a new message notification in the browser tab when the chat window is open:

Great job! You've set up key features of your Facebook Chat widget. Now, you can further customize it to enhance visitor engagement on your website.
